Janeen's Background
The driving career of Janeen Hartley began on the family farm. Four years of helping her father haul in the crops, was the on set of a life long practice of cross country travel and adventuresome employment.
Janeen's post secondary education was in the field of Professional Driving. The certification enabled her to start her career as a freight truck driver and then moving on to building logging roads on Haida Gwaii. Her next employer was Transport Canada at the Sandspit Airport. There she was trained in fire fighting; structural and aviation. The employer saw her potential and promoted her as Supervisor of Maintenance. The opportunity for dual training with Parks Canada enabled Janeen to be trained in Helicopter Evacuation for marine and forest.
During this time Janeen was also employed by B.C. Ambulance as a driver on Haida Gwaii. The neighbourhood taxi company had Janeen fill in during summer holidays.
From there, Janeen moved over to B.C. Ferries where she drove the tractor trailer off-loading and reloading freight trailers.
The Transition House Society of Haida Gwaii was Janeen’s employer for 8 years where she held positions as support worker, Outreach Worker, Staff Supervision. As the Outreach worker Janeen was permitted to carry passengers for the Transition House.
